We’re going to go on this skiing class trip but I’m really, really worried.. PLEASE HELP?!?

I’m doing snowboarding on the trip but the problem is that I’m afraid I’ll pretty much die doing it. I’ve already tried it once in a group and seriously sucked at it and then I’ve tried it with a single trainer and almost killed myself, but kind of survived in the end. And I’m totally scared of the lift and especially how you have to jump of it and slide if you know what I mean. I can’t do skiing for various reasons but please help me, what could I do with snowboarding?! I know I’m not gonna be the only beginner but I’m still way scared about everything. It’s gonna suck so much, and it’s a sport I just can’t ‘conquer’. I have a choice of going to a hill alone to practice tomorrow but would that be advisable for a beginner?? And how about the lift?? It’s probably gonna stop just because of my clumsiness!! Please any advice, tipps or anything is needed from you guys!! Would it help if I practiced by myself tommorow??

i just went on a group skiing trip and there were a couple guys on the trip that were snowboarding/skiing for the first time ever. So what we did for them is the group just stuck with them and helped them and we all took it easy until they got it down. Don’t do any slopes that will be too hard for u even if most of your group wants to do them. Don’t do anything that u r not ready to do and keep ur mind focused and clear without getting hysterical

Don’t sweat it. I was like completely freaking out before the ski trip at my school. I was looking up stuff on skiing on the internet. Good to know a few things on skiing before doing it. But uhh, snowboarding is REALLY hard. I saw a a group of teenagers do it and they like died on the way down the hill. (not really but not the point). Skiing is easiar. I would keep practicing on that so that you can get better at it. Learn more of the positions on skiing online so you know how to slow down.

ITS OKAY TO FALL DOWN. They even teach you how to fall down. When you feel like your going too fast then crouch down and fall sideways. NEVER BACKWARDS OR FORWARDS. It doesn’t hurt at all, seriously. It was my first time doing it and I sucked at first then got better and better. After going on the bunny hills like 10 times I went on the lift with my friend.

It was kinda scary and in line, we were like “How do we get on???” They will tell you how. You just go on the matt thing and the lift seat just kind of scoops you up. We were swearing about half the way while laffing at the same time. It takes a little while unitl you reach your destination but no worries. We relaxed then kinda got bored on the way. You get use to it your first time so no sweat, k?

As for getting off, you just get your butt off from the seat and slide down. No biggie. And trust me, I’m like the biggest scaredy cat of all times and skiing just got better and better. Practice with a friend !! This all goes for snowboarding and skiing. GOOD LUCK, MY FRIEND !!!!!!! But I have a teeny weeny feeling that you won’t need it :)

    Are you skiing or boarding?

Either way you need to calm down and take some more lessons. What’s happening in your head is just as important as what your feet are doing. It’s so easy to think you’re going to fall and then you do it. In a lesson tell the instructor what makes you nervous and they’ll show you it’s not a big deal and teach you how to do it.

Snowboarding takes a few days to a week to get the hang of, so don’t be surprised if you’re not good at it right away. Skiing is easier to learn than boarding at first. Past the first week or two skiing is harder than boarding though. There aren’t really any interchangeable skills between the two so pick one that you want to do, not because you think you should learn it.

Also – falling over is an easy but dangerous way to stop. Learning stopping is the first thing you learn so you don’t need to fall to control youself.

    I suggest the following things:

    1. Take few lessons.
    2. Have a very “patient” friend with you to boost your confidence and teach you after your lessons.
    3. Get a wrist guard, butt pad, hip pads and helmet.
    4. Stay warm and have fun.
